My September

September is coming to an end and I've spent most of this month being more over the top fashion obsessed than usual. I bought the September issue of US Vogue which weighed a tonne. It is the biggest mag that I own. I also finally bought and watched "The September Issue" on DVD. I admire Anna Wintour a lot more and it's a definite watch for anyone interested in fashion.

The Science of Fashion

I got the chance to see The Science of Fashion exhibition at Te Manawa (Palmerston North's Museum) today. All the outfits are created from fabrics created by AgResearch. The fabrics are all quite amazing. They have managed to make wool into a lighter and cooler fabric. The outfits are created by the creme de la creme of New Zealand fashion designers; Annah Streton, Cybele, Hailwood, Stitch Ministry, Sera Lilly, twentysevennames and more. My favourite outfit is a black dress by Sera Lilly (pictured just above). If you're in Palmerston North go and check it out. It's free entry and it finishes on the 24th of October.

Wish List Wednesday: To go to New Zealand Fashion Week

My wish list wednesday this time isn't something material but my ultimate wish to attend New Zealand Fashion Week. The whos who are all there, the biggest designers, photographers and bloggers. Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast is one lucky girl. Hopefully in the future I'll get an invite but for now I can only wish. The pictures above are runway pictures from Juliette Hogan from day one (yesterday) of fashion week.

Karen Walker Front Row and Backstage Spring 2011

I just loved Karen Walker's latest collection and I just wanted to share some front row and backstage pictures. I wish I could have gone to the show in New York. Amongst the front row were Becka Diamond and Harley Viera-Newton.

Peace Out!

Karen's Perfect Day

Karen Walker's Spring 2011 show was quirky, colourful and fun. I loved the pop of the colour orange and yellow because it really represents spring. The clothes were very refined but still very Karen Walker. You can see this in the cut of the skirts and cute prints. The collection was very ladylike with the longer length skirts, button-up shirts and skinny belts. Karen's definitely referencing the 50's but it's all done in a way that you still know it's Karen because of her prints. I especially love the one with little birds. It kinda reminded me of the animal prints that Miu Miu had for Spring 2010 which were a big hit. The upside down "I love NY " t-shirt is a homage to New York, as this is her ninth showing there and it will probably be a best seller. I can already see all the cool kids wearing it. Karen's clothes are fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously. That's probably why her clothes appeal to a wide audience and is so successful. Perfect Day, Perfect Collection!

Karen Walker's famous fans

Karen Walker is showing her SS 2011 collection entitled "Perfect Day" tomorrow at New York Fashion Week. I can't wait to see the collection. Unfortunately I'm not in New York nor did I get an invite. Front row seats are saved for the uber famous celebrities and buyers. I've decided to make a collage of Karen's celebrity fans wearing her works. Hmm I wonder if any of them will be in the front row at her show tomorrow.

No Alexa Chung for Madewell for me

I'm so sad right now. That is because I won't be able to get my hands on any of Alexa Chung's collection for Madewell which was released yesterday. Currently Madewell's online shop doesn't ship to New Zealand. I had blogged about this collection at the beginning of the year and have been obsessing over it for ages. I will just have to hope that Madewell will change their international shipping options very soon! Oh Alexa looks amazing in the promotion photos but she always does.

Kester Black jewellery

I'm not usually one to wear jewellery but I have made an exception. I just couldn't resist the charm and uniqueness of a hand carved wooden rabbit necklace by Kester Black while I walked passed one of my favourite boutiques on George Street, Guilty As Sin. Having been a former rabbit owner, it reminded me of the good times I had with my rabbit. Plus, the necklace being cute is also a bonus. I'm a sucker for anything cute!
Kester Black was established in 2009 by up and coming fashion designer Anna Ross. While studying a Bachelor of Fashion Design at Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand, Ross realized her flair and passion for designing jewellery, and so Kester Black was created. Now based in Melbourne, Ross creates her pieces from her Brunswick studio, an old converted rope factory, supplying stockists throughout both Australia and New Zealand. Producing two collections each year, all of the jewellery produced is made from the highest quality materials and workmanship, utilizing materials such as white gold, silver and hand carved wood.
(about Kester Black via her website).
